Stainless steel weight calculator

Estimate theoretical purchasing weight for stainless steel plate, sheet, round pipe, round bar, square bar, flat bar, square tube and rectangular tube. No sign-up or email is required.

Use a dot for decimals (e.g. 3.5); do not enter commas or thousands separators.

Total theoretical weight

Substituted formula

Density basis used
Calculate to show the density used for this result.

Use this theoretical weight to estimate quantity and freight. Final delivered or invoiced weight follows the actual dimensions, tolerances, cutting and agreed order-weight basis.

How the result is calculated

  • Dimensions are nominal and are normalized to millimetres before calculation.
  • 310S uses the reviewed room-temperature producer density shown below; other listed grades require a custom density.
  • Quantity is a positive whole number and results are theoretical, not certified scale weights.
  • Sharp-corner estimate: rounded corners and weld bead are excluded. Actual tube mass may differ.

Worked examples

310S plate: 8 × 1500 × 6000 mm

Using 7,800 kg/m³, one nominal plate is 561.6 kg: 8 × 1500 × 6000 ÷ 1,000,000,000 × 7,800.

Review available stainless plate forms and the 310S grade basis.

310S round pipe example

Annular cross-section × length × density: 7,800 kg/m³ → 95.537843 kg; 15.922974 kg/m.

Review pipe and tube supply before specifying tolerance and order-weight basis.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Is this stainless steel weight exact?

The result is a theoretical purchasing estimate. Dimensional tolerance, density variation, cutting and the agreed order-weight basis can change delivered or invoiced weight.

  2. Which density should I use?

Use a reviewed grade-specific value when available. Otherwise enter the density agreed in the applicable material documentation and confirm the commercial order-weight basis with the supplier.

  3. Can I calculate in inches and pounds?

Yes. Switch the unit system before entering dimensions; the calculator normalizes dimensions for calculation and presents mass in the selected system.

  4. Are square and rectangular tube corners included?

Sharp-corner estimate: rounded corners and weld bead are excluded. Actual tube mass may differ.
