Standards & Designations
- EN 1.4828 X15CrNiSi20-12
309Si2 is our commercial enquiry name. We quote EN 1.4828 X15CrNiSi20-12 and state that designation on the order and MTC; it is not automatically UNS S30908.
Chemical Composition
This flat/long-product reference specifies Si 1.50–2.00%. The separate welded-tube reference permits Si 1.50–2.50% and S ≤0.030%; do not apply the flat chemistry or mechanical table to every tube.

Mechanical Properties
Reference: annealed flat material, thickness ≤12 mm, tested at room temperature. Rp0.2 is proof strength; Rm is tensile strength. These values do not replace creep or design data and do not apply automatically to tubes or cold-worked parts.

Physical Properties
At 20°C, technical references for these EN grades give typical densities of 7800 kg/m³ and 7900 kg/m³. Use the density agreed for your material in Custom Density; the calculator does not assume a value for either commercial Si2 name.

High-Temperature Characteristics
About 1000°C is an air-oxidation screening reference. Compare actual gas chemistry, thermal cycles and load; sulfur-bearing or strongly carburizing service needs specific assessment rather than a blanket suitability claim.

Available Product Forms
Choose the form that fits the component geometry and fabrication plan, then use its product page to prepare dimensions, finish, processing, inspection and packing requirements.
The product-form list shows our regular supply capability. The dated stock table shows only current and common inventory; a form or boundary size not listed there is not a supply limit.

Available Dimensions
We quote dimensions and tolerances for your selected form and quantity; there is no single stock-size range covering every grade and form.
Processing & Welding
We plan joint preparation, forming sequence and distortion control around the drawing. High-silicon material needs a qualified welding procedure and consumables suitable for the specified high-temperature service; pressure fabrication requires separate code and product-standard review.
Processing & WeldingIndustry Applications
We supply material and fabricated parts for furnace supports, annealing boxes, hot-air ducts and exhaust components. Geometry, gas exposure and expansion allowance help determine whether the material is appropriate.

Inspection Options
- MTC identifying the heat, grade, ordered standard and reported test results.
- Dimensional, surface, traceability and marking records specified by the purchase order.
- NDT, PMI, third-party inspection or additional test reports only when ordered.
- EN 10204 3.1 wording only when the issued certificate explicitly carries that type.
Related Grades
Compare 309S and 309Si2 by carbon, silicon and chromium balance, not by a simple better/worse ranking. For higher oxidation demand, compare 310Si2 / EN 1.4841 with its higher chromium/nickel content, while checking load and atmosphere separately.
Frequently asked questions
How do these grades compare?
Compare 309S and 309Si2 by carbon, silicon and chromium balance, not by a simple better/worse ranking. For higher oxidation demand, compare 310Si2 / EN 1.4841 with its higher chromium/nickel content, while checking load and atmosphere separately.
Which forms can you supply?
We supply sheet, plate, coil, strip and bar, with cutting, forming and fabricated furnace parts to drawing. Dimensions, delivery condition and availability are confirmed in our quotation.
Does the oxidation temperature define the service limit?
No. An air-oxidation reference is not an allowable stress, component-life promise or universal operating temperature. Atmosphere, thermal cycling, load and section thickness govern material selection.
Which designation should appear on the order and material certificate?
309Si2 is our commercial enquiry name. We quote EN 1.4828 X15CrNiSi20-12 and state that designation on the order and MTC; it is not automatically UNS S30908.
What needs attention when welding or forming Si2 material?
We plan joint preparation, forming sequence and distortion control around the drawing. High-silicon material needs a qualified welding procedure and consumables suitable for the specified high-temperature service; pressure fabrication requires separate code and product-standard review.
