Pieces per ton calculator

Convert a target theoretical mass into fractional and whole pieces, or convert a whole-piece requirement into kilograms and metric tonnes. Enter mass per piece directly or derive it from dimensions without sign-up.

Use a dot for decimals (e.g. 3.5); do not enter commas or thousands separators.

Use the whole-piece result to prepare your quantity. We will quote mill packing, minimum order, tolerances, cutting loss and the commercial weight basis for your request.

How the result is calculated

  • Per-piece weight is theoretical, whether entered directly or calculated from nominal dimensions.
  • Dimension-based calculations use the same shared weight engine as the stainless steel weight calculator.
  • Confirm mill packing, minimum order, dimensional tolerances, cutting loss and the commercial weight basis with the supplier before ordering.

Worked examples

One tonne target using 561.6 kg per plate

1,000 kg ÷ 561.6 kg per piece = 1.78062678 theoretical pieces. One whole piece fits, leaving a 438.4 kg theoretical remainder.

Three plates from the same basis

Three pieces × 561.6 kg per piece = 1,684.8 kg, or 1.6848 metric tonnes of required theoretical mass.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Why are fractional and whole-piece quantities different?

The fractional result is target mass divided by mass per piece. Whole pieces are rounded down to fit within that target; the unused mass is shown separately.

  2. Can I start from dimensions instead of kg per piece?

Yes. Choose dimensions to calculate the mass per piece, then convert it to quantity or total mass. Use the correct shape, dimensions and material density.

  3. Should I round the piece weight before calculating quantity?

Use the unrounded mass per piece when available. Rounding it first can change the whole-piece count near a boundary; the dimension-based calculation retains the unrounded value.

  4. Does the remaining mass represent an offcut I will receive?

No. It is the target mass left after counting whole pieces. It does not describe a physical offcut, packing allowance or extra material included in the order.
